DANFORTH, Maine — A cause of death has yet to be determined for a 5-month-old child who died in northern Washington County on Friday morning.

Mark Belserene, spokesman for the state medical examiner’s office, said Monday an autopsy on the body of Mach-Danyel Richardson was completed Saturday in Augusta, but “it may be a while before we have a cause,” he said.

State police spokesman Stephen McCausland added that officials will be conducting additional testing on the child’s body to determine an exact cause of death.

The baby’s parents, Allen Richardson and Tabbatha Osnoe, were charged Saturday with manufacturing methamphetamine, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Both were on probation at the time.

About an hour after Richardson and Osnoe contacted authorities about their child, a neighbor discovered that their mobile home was on fire.

McCausland has said police do not believe the fire and the death of the infant are connected.

McCausland said Monday a cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and the state fire marshal’s office continues to investigate.
