PORTLAND, Maine — Doctors in Maine say they’re prepared for the Ebola virus, though they say Mainers shouldn’t be too concerned to begin with.
Doctors at Maine Medical Center tell CBS 13 News that they have their own screening process in place for the virus. Still, Dr. Michael Bauman says the chances of someone contracting Ebola in Maine are very rare.
“The risk of it occurring in Maine — because we’re not a primary port of entry into the U.S. — is rare,” said Bauman. “The risk to the population as a whole is really rare in the United States. You cannot catch it from somebody who is symptomatic, and somebody who is symptomatic will usually show up in a health care facility in the United States.”
Doctors at Maine Med also say that if anyone shows symptoms of the disease, they have ways to isolate the patient.
