SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Police are trying to find a masked man who allegedly tried to rob the West Front Street Market at knifepoint before fleeing empty-handed.
A man wearing a black neoprene mask, camouflage pants and a sleeveless camouflage shirt over a dark green hoodie waked into the store at 68 West Front St. shortly after 7:30 p.m. Friday, Skowhegan police Chief Ted Blais said in a news release later that night.
He approached the counter with a knife in hand. Blais did not say what the suspect demanded of the clerk, but he fled the store before anything was handed over.
Blais described the suspect as standing about 6 feet tall and having a “thin build.”
Officers from Skowhegan, Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service went to the scene. A Franklin County police dog and handler also assisted and were able to track the scent from West Front Street to Main Street to South Factory Street before losing the trail.
