ORONO — The Orono Public Library Foundation announced that it has received a $2,000 contribution from Camden National Bank for Chapter Two: The Campaign for the Orono Village Green.
Taylor Black, Camden National Bank Orono branch manager, presented a check for the Orono Village Green to Campaign Co-chairwoman and foundation President Sarah Kenney on Oct. 3.
Brent Folster, vice president commercial banking officer said, “Camden National Bank is very honored to be associated with the Orono Village Green Project.”
The campaign has raised $218,239 thanks to the contributions of 143 donors including individuals, families, foundations, businesses and organizations.
Kenney said, “We are in the home-stretch of this $370,000 campaign and we are very grateful to have the support of Camden National Bank. Their support demonstrates their commitment to the community of Orono. We are delighted to count them as an important partner in helping to make the Orono Village Green a reality.”
In presenting the contribution, Taylor Black said, “We look forward to watching this project develop and are pleased to be able to contribute to the campaign.”
The Orono Public Library Foundation was founded in 2002 and successfully led the $2.1 million capital campaign to fund the new library, which opened on Pine Street in 2009 thanks to the perseverance of dedicated community volunteers and the support of the Town of Orono and 918 individuals, organizations, businesses and foundations.
The foundation board of directors crafted a plan for a privately funded landscape design for the grounds directly behind the library to benefit people of all ages and abilities. When complete, the project will transform the area into the Orono Village Green, a gift from the Foundation to the Town of Orono.
Funds for the Orono Village Green campaign are being raised privately and will be gifted to the Town of Orono. The library and grounds are property of the town, and all aspects of the construction project will be managed by town staff.
The campaign goal also includes $25,000 to establish a restricted fund to support the area’s annual maintenance by the town. The elements of the Orono Village Green will feature a 125-seat amphitheater with large flat stone stage; ADA accessible ramp, lawn and granite seating; hundreds of ornamental trees, flowers and plantings; stone plaza with tables, chairs and sun shade; an overlook area; a pergola; bench seating areas; pathways circling the grounds connecting to the Orono Senior Center and leading to the village.
