WASHBURN, Maine — A Cross Road residence was spared despite damage by fire Wednesday morning, officials said.
When crews arrived on scene shortly before 10:30 a.m., smoke and fire was pouring from the attic in an area near a pellet stove chimney, according to Washburn Fire and Rescue Chaplain Troy Heald.
Crews quickly were able to gain access to the attic area and knock down the blaze, according to Heald.
The home had smoke and water damage, but the quick response by the firefighters likely prevented further damaged, Heald said, and a neighbor across the street called 911 to report the fire.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire, but two dogs that were there were not harmed. The home is insured and repairable, Heald said. Washburn firefighters were assisted by Mapleton firefighters and Crown Ambulance.
