CAMDEN, Maine — A state judge has ruled that the town was within its legal rights to grant a special exception to the Camden Harbour Inn so that it can expand.
Justice Daniel Billings ruled that the Camden Zoning Board of Appeals acted properly in granting the special exception on Jan. 23 to allow the inn to add 10 rooms.
The vote was challenged by neighbor Susan Bryant who filed her court appeal in March in Knox County Superior Court. She argued that the board’s decision to grant the exception for Breda LLC on Bay View Street was not supported by the evidence presented to the board.
Billings concluded that the board decision was supported by substantial evidence.
Camden Planner/Code Enforcement Officer Steve Wilson said Tuesday that the inn has yet to file an application to the planning board for the expansion. He said the inn’s owners recently purchased an inn in Portland and were spending their time getting that up and running.
A telephone message left Tuesday morning with Raymond Brunanyszki, co-owner of the inn, was not immediately returned.
A telephone message left for Bryant on Tuesday morning also was not immediately returned. She lives on Chestnut Street, next to the inn.
