Children’s Choir

AREA — Bangor Area Children’s Choir will hold auditions throughout January for second semester participation in its Treble Choir for children age 9 and up and Youth Chorale for children age 12 and up.

‘Nite Show’ taping

BANGOR — “The Nite Show with Danny Cashman” will be filmed before a live studio audience at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, The Gracie Theatre, One College Circle, Husson University.

Audience members are asked to arrive no later than 5:45 p.m. and must be at least 14 or older.

Art installation

BANGOR — The Sohns Gallery, located in The Rock & Art Shop, 36 Central St., will present “1575 to 2200 Degrees: University of Maine Sculpture Unearthed Glass and Steel.” The University of Maine’s Advanced Sculpture class will be exhibit more than 15 glass casting, nearly 200 feet of forged steel and glass thread. Professor Gregory Ondo, studio technician Matthew R. Foster and students worked together to create the installation that will be exhibited from through March 16. The one-week installation process was open to the public to watch the progression.

An opening reception, introduction and conversation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16. For information, call 947-2205.

Auditions

BREWER — Boys and girls ages 5 to 11 are invited to audition for Disney’s musical, “Cinderella,” at Next Generation Theatre, 39 Center St. Starting Wednesday, Feb. 4, rehearsals will take place 4-6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Show dates are April 10-12, and April 17-19.

Youth and teens age 11 and older are invited to audition for “High School Musical,” also at Next Generation Theatre. Starting Wednesday, Feb. 4, rehearsals will take place 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Show dates are May 15-17.

Art exhibit

BREWER — The Gallery at School Street Picture Framing announced that work by Maine native and artist Ken Brooks of Athens will be on display through Feb. 19 at the gallery, 33 School St. The exhibit will include paintings, limited edition and open edition prints, wood carvings of birds, and motorcycle drawings.

An opening reception with the artist in attendance will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 at the gallery. For information, call the gallery at 991-9889.

“Yeomen of the Guard’

ELLSWORTH — The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine will perform “Yeomen of the Guard” at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at The Grand Auditorium. Theater fund grant

ORONO — Orono Community Theatre, a program of the Orono Parks and Recreation

Department, announced that it has received a grant for $1,850 from the Maine Theater Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to support its upcoming collaboration with Ten Bucks Theatre company, Arthur Miller’s classic American drama, “Death of a Salesman.”  The play will

be co-produced by the two local theater companies Jan. 16-18 and Jan. 22-25, at the Cyrus Pavilion Theatre on the University of Maine campus.

“This grant will allow us to expand our audience base,” said Sandy Cyrus, artistic director for Orono Community Theatre. “The last time this play was produced locally was in 1976.  We want to introduce a new generation of theatre-goers to the work of this classic American playwright.”

A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation partners with donors and nonprofits to strengthen Maine communities. For information, visit mainecf.org.
