NEW LIMERICK, Maine — Two New Limerick brothers have been arrested and charged on several outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court and for unpaid fines.

One of the brothers, Robert Brewer, 22, also faces new charges of burglary, theft and theft of firearms.

Aroostook County sheriff’s deputies arrested Brewer, 22, and 19-year-old Cody Brewer on Sunday evening, according to a news release issued Wednesday by Sheriff Darrell Crandall.

He said that Deputy Sheriff Stewart Kennedy went looking for the young men at their father’s home on Station Road in New Limerick and found them hiding inside.

Both were taken into custody without incident. Between the two brothers, there were five active arrest warrants for failure to appear in court and for unpaid fines, according to Crandall.

Based on investigations into burglaries in September and November, the deputies also charged the elder brother with two counts of Class B burglary, one Class B theft, one Class C theft and a Class B theft of firearms. He faces up to 10 years in prison on each Class B felony and up to five years on each Class C crime.

According to the sheriff’s office, several firearms and a canoe were among items stolen during a burglary on Route 2 in New Limerick in November. A truck, tractor, a car, a trailer and a storage shed reportedly were taken in another burglary reported in Moro in September. Deputies have recovered many of the stolen items and have been looking for Robert Brewer to charge him, according to Crandall.

Cody Brewer since has made bail, while Robert Brewer remained jailed on Wednesday.

Sheriff’s Deputies Vance Palmer and Erica Pelletier assisted with the investigation. Maine State Police Trooper Adam Bell also went to New Limerick on Sunday to assist Kennedy with the arrest and transportation of the brothers.
