BANGOR, Maine — Union Street traffic was detoured Thursday because of a water main break, officials said.

The break occurred near the intersection of Union and 15th streets, according to Bangor Water District General Manager Kathy Moriarty.

Moriarty said the water main break was caused by a hole in a pipe. The pipe dates to 1928.

Crews were working in the area later Thursday afternoon and Moriarty said work was expected to be finished by Thursday night.

Homes on 15th Street between Ohio and Union streets were affected but were expected to get full service back once work was finished.
