Chancellor played Super Bowl with torn MCL
Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor said he played in the Super Bowl with a torn MCL in his left knee.
Chancellor suffered a deep bone bruise to the knee on the penultimate play of practice Friday.
He told Seahawks.com the examination also revealed a tear in his medial collateral ligament — an injury coach Pete Carroll indicated could have been pre-existing.
Chancellor still played in the Seahawks’ 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots, collecting 10 tackles and keeping up with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski all over the field.
No charges filed against Indians’ Salazar
Cleveland Indians right-handed pitcher Danny Salazar was investigated by police for a possible sexual assault but was not charged, according to a report.
The incident reportedly happened in Cleveland in the early hours of Jan. 23 when Salazar and other players were in town for TribeFest, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.
Last year, Salazar bounced between Cleveland and Class AAA Columbus. He went 6-8 with a 4.25 ERA in 20 starts for the Indians.
Catcher Roberto Perez was reportedly with Salazar, but no complaint was filed against him.
Baldwin fined for obscene celebration
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin reportedly was fined $11,025 on Wednesday for pretending to defecate in the end zone after scoring in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Baldwin scored on a 3-yard pass to put Seattle ahead of the New England Patriots, 24-14, with 4:54 left in the third quarter. He then ran over to the football and squatted over it, pretending to pull his pants down.
He was penalized 15 yards, meaning the Seahawks kicked off from their 20-yard line. Danny Amendola returned the kick 21 yards to the 31.
After the game, Baldwin said the gesture was aimed at a specific group, but he did not elaborate.
Clarett receives early probation
Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett on Wednesday was granted early release from probation nearly five years after he was released from prison on robbery and weapons convictions.
Judge David Fais moved up the 31-year-old Clarett’s release before his last day on the job Friday. Fais also granted Clarett an early release from prison in 2010.
Fais called Clarett one of the “truly, truly wonderful success stories I’ve had as a judge.”
Since Clarett was released from prison, he has written an autobiography, given motivational speeches and worked with young people while hoping to serve as a role model.
Clarett helped Ohio State win the BCS national championship in 2002 as a freshman. He challenged the NFL’s eligibility rules as a sophomore and was unsuccessful, sat out a year and then was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2005 but never played.
In 2006, he was arrested in Columbus after robbing a couple at gunpoint. Later that year, police again arrested Clarett after a high-speed chase when they found him wearing a bulletproof vest and with four guns and a hatchet in his car.
Colts’ Jackson arrested on assault charge
WASHINGTON — D’Qwell Jackson, the Indianapolis Colts linebacker whose interception in the AFC title game is believed to have triggered the “Deflategate” controversy, was arrested on an assault charge after getting into a fight over a parking space, authorities said.
Jackson, 31, punched another man in the head several times during the argument on Tuesday night in Washington, according to an arrest record released on Wednesday.
An eight-year NFL veteran, Jackson was charged with simple assault and released.
Jackson’s interception of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reportedly touched off the squabble over the Patriots possibly deflating the footballs to achieve a better grip.
Jackson is said to have noticed the ball was underinflated and told the equipment manager.
