ORONO, Maine — Voters filled five posts during annual local elections Tuesday.
Up for grabs this year were three Town Council seats and two
positions on the Regional School Unit 26 board.
Town Council incumbents Thomas Perry and Judith Sullivan each won their re-election bids, with 382 votes and 254 votes, respectively.
Winning the third council opening was Samuel Kunz, who nabbed 348 votes, according to election tallies issued by Town Clerk Donna Emerson after the ballots were counted Tuesday night.
Others who ran for council were Michael Costello, who received 197 votes, and Daniel LaPointe, a perennial candidate of at last six years, who had 56 votes.
In the race for two RSU 26 seats, candidate Brian McGill, who has been vocal at school board meetings in the past, won the most votes with 355 ballots cast in his name.
McGill closely outpaced incumbent Mark Brewer, who had 328 votes. Incumbent candidate Frances Mary Neubauer lost her re-election bid, with 187 votes.
