DOVER, New Hampshire — Two women will appear before a judge next week on child endangerment charges after police busted them allegedly taking heroin at the Tedeschi on Back River Road in Dover.

Cynthia Rose, of 418 Elm St. in North Berwick, Maine, and Cristy Miller, of 12 Melrose Drive, in Rochester, New Hampshire, were inside a running motor vehicle in the store’s parking lot with two children, ages 8 and 10, when police were called by a witness about suspicious activity on Feb. 28. Upon questioning, Rose admitted the duo had been using drugs, Lt. David Martinelli of the Dover Police Department said.

When Miller stepped out of the vehicle, heroin fell from her lap. Both the children inside the vehicle claimed they belong to Miller, Martinelli said.

Rose, 33, the driver, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and operating a vehicle after her license had been suspended. She was convicted in August of 2013 for driving while intoxicated, Martinelli said.

Miller, 30, was also charged with child endangerment and possession of a controlled drug, a felony.

Martinelli said it is not common for police to arrest mothers who are using drugs in front of their children, but it is not unheard of.

Rose is scheduled to appear at Brentwood Circuit Court on March 19. Miller is expected to appear at Rochester Circuit Court March 16.
