LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — A 31-year-old Lincolnville man died Tuesday night after his car crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle.
Adam Knight was thrown from his 1997 Volkswagen car after it struck a 2007 Kia driven by Pricilla Jones, 58, of Lincolnville, according to a news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. Knight was driving north on Route 52 about 7:30 p.m. when the crash occurred.
The force of the crash caused the Volkswagen to break into two pieces and Knight was ejected from the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. Knight was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
“The accident is under investigation, and speed and alcohol are suspected as possible contributing factors,” Lt. Jason Trundy of the sheriff’s office wrote in an email sent Monday afternoon, adding that police will share information as toxicology and reconstruction reports become available.
Jones had to be extricated from her vehicle by members of the local Fire Department and then was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast by ambulance. Jones suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sgt. James Greeley and Deputy Kevin Littlefield of the sheriff’s office went to the crash scene along with members of the Lincolnville Fire Department and Northeast Ambulance Service.
Littlefield is the primary investigating officer and was assisted by Greeley and Deputy Daniel Thompson. Deputies Benjamin Seekins and Cody Laite went to the crash scene to perform a reconstruction of the accident.
