WATERVILLE, Maine — A Benton man was arrested Monday after allegedly attempting to run three men down with his pickup truck, according to Waterville police Sgt. Dan Goss.
Mark Tibbetts, 43, is facing three charges of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, all Class C felonies, according to Goss.
The series of events started around 7:45 p.m. when Tibbetts pulled into a College Avenue driveway and got into an argument with the men, according to Goss.
The sergeant said Tibbetts and the men have had issues in the past. Tibbetts began fighting with the men upon exiting the pickup, according to Goss.
The victims, who were not seriously injured, fled the scene on foot, at which point Tibbetts jumped into the pickup and chased the men down, trying to run them over, Goss said.
The sergeant added Tibbetts drove the truck up on the sidewalk and onto people’s lawns while in pursuit of the victims.
Tibbetts was arrested within a half-hour of the incident being reported after police stopped the truck on College Avenue. He was released from the police station on $1,500 unsecured bail.
