CORINTH, Maine — A collision Thursday at the intersection of Route 15 and West Corinth Road sent two elderly Corinth residents to the hospital, one of them via LifeFlight.

Injured were Carl Mitchell, 88, and his passenger, 87-year-old Sarah Ward, Sgt. Sean McCue of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday night.

Though his injuries did not turn out to be life-threatening, Mitchell was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center as a precaution because he had what appeared to be a serious head injury, McCue said.

Ward, who suffered injuries to her face, was taken to EMMC by ambulance, he said.

Though McCue said the crash remains under investigation, he said it appeared that the T-bone crash happened about 4:45 p.m., when Mitchell turned his full-size Chevrolet pickup from West Corinth Road onto Route 15, traveling into the path of a full-sized Nissan pickup driven by Jared Noble, 20, of Hudson.

Noble and his passenger, Hunter Campbell, 19, of Corinth, suffered minor injuries but did not require a trip to the hospital, McCue said.

Both trucks were heavily damaged, he said.
