CAMDEN, Maine — The town will observe Arbor Day at a ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday on the Town Green at the corner of Elm and Chestnut streets.
After a brief ceremony, including reading Camden’s official Arbor Day proclamation and the presentation of Camden’s 20th Tree City U.S.A. Award, a walking tour will be guided by author and arborist Nancy Caudle-Johnson and Conservation Commission Chairman and arborist Douglas Johnson around Chestnut and Bayview streets.
Caudle-Johnson, Camden’s Arbor Day and Tree City U.S.A. coordinator for the past 21 years said she created the tour in order to introduce residents and visitors to Camden’s “beautiful and amazing trees and historic treescapes.”
There will be copies of the recently published Walking Tour brochure which was paid for with a Project Canopy grant from the Maine Department of Conservation and Forestry and from money from Treekeepers LLC-Johnson’s Arboriculture of Maine, The brochures are available for free at locations including the town office and Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.
