WEST GARDINER, Maine — Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the burglary of a state trooper’s West Gardiner garage, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Arrested were Dustin Woodworth, 29, of Augusta, Ian Watson, 27, of Farmingdale and Sarah Giampetro, 25, of Farmingdale, McCausland said.

The trio were arrested after one of the items stolen from Trooper Tim Black’s garage, a kayak, was sold over the Internet, with the money allegedly being used to purchase drugs, McCausland said.

The trooper discovered the burglary last week, and in addition to the kayak, two mountain bikes, tools, ammunition and a state police jacket and patches were taken, McCausland said.

A couple days after the burglary was reported, police discovered the kayak had been advertised for sale on Facebook and Craigslist and purchased for $140, and an interview with the unsuspecting buyer led police to Woodworth’s Augusta home.

The trio were arrested on Sunday morning, with Woodworth and Watson being charged with two counts of burglary, felony theft and criminal mischief, McCausland said. Giampetro was charged with having prescription medication not prescribed to her while Woodworth was also charged with heroin possession.

All three were taken to the Kennebec County Jail.
