HARRINGTON, Maine — A car struck a pole shortly after midnight Tuesday, causing 849 people to lose power in the area, according to a spokeswoman for Emera Maine.

The crash took place on Route 1 in Harrington, said Emera spokeswoman Susan Faloon.

A portion of the affected electric utility customers had power restored by 2:44 a.m., she said, and the rest had power back by 6:18 a.m.

“There was a broken pole, and [linemen] had to replace that pole just beyond the Irving station in Harrington,” Faloon said.

Chief Deputy Michael Crabtree of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday morning that his department responded to a crash shortly after midnight in which a car struck a pole in Harrington.

He said that additional details would be available later Tuesday or early Wednesday.
