BANGOR — The 21st annual Neighborhood Block Party will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Chapin Park, located behind the Abraham Lincoln School between Forest and Parkview avenues.
The Block Party is made possible by the contributions of a record number of State Street and other interested area businesses. The annual event is an opportunity for management and employees of the local enterprises to present the free event as a thank you to the community for their many successful years of business in Bangor.
As in the past, the block party will feature a Bangor Band concert 6:45-7:45 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, ice cream, soda and lemonade. Sam’s Club and the East Orrington Congregational Church will provide free hot dogs along with Frank’s Bake Shop providing the free ice cream.
Activities will include Anah Shrine Clowns, face painting, children’s games, hula hooping with Trish Hayes and a photo booth. Bangor Public Library volunteers will provide a special Story Time area for children.
Arts in the Park are arranged by the city of Bangor’s Commission on Cultural Development, Bangor Art Society and the University of Maine Museum of Art.
The Penobscot Theater Company will be on stage 6-6:20 p.m. featuring Improv Kids’ Dramatic Academy. Several area businesses will set up display booths.
Subject to availability, there will be a variety of emergency service vehicles on display from the Bangor Fire Department, Bangor Police Department, Bangor Public Works and Emera Maine. In addition Chapin Park has been adopted by Eastern Maine Healthcare and is beautified by a garden maintained by the Hospice of Eastern Maine Volunteers.
Additional parking will be available at All Saints Catholic School and restrooms will be available at the Abraham Lincoln School.
Rain date for the event is Tuesday, Aug. 4.
