Class reunion
BANGOR — Bangor High School class of 1990 will hold its 25th reunion Saturday, Aug. 1, in Bangor.
The schedule of activities is:
- 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 31, informal gathering at Sea Dog in Bangor. No scheduled program, no cost to attend.
- 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, Family Day activities at Big Bang Boom, 820 Main Road, Holden. Bring your own food and beverages. No cost to attend.
- 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug , reunion at Hollywood Casino, 500 Main St. in Bangor. Anticipated cost is $75 per person and includes dinner.

Teen Parent Education Program
BANGOR — Good Samaritan Agency’s Teen Parent Education Program is accepting new students to begin classes in the fall. The Teen Parent Education program is an alternative high school diploma program for pregnant or parenting young women between the ages of 14 and 19 years. Students take classes in core academic subjects as well as nutrition, career exploration, healthy relationships, parenting, child development and budgeting. On-site child care is available. Hiroshima commemoration
BANGOR — A commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 6, at at Westmarket Square in downtown Bangor.
Members of the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine invite the public to the event which will include readings and a symbolic “die-in.” Participants may simply stand as witnesses or lie down in a symbolic “die -in” to represent those who died and those who survived.
According to program coordinator Ilze Petersons, the purpose of the gatherings is “to remember a dark time in history, memorialize those who died and those who survived and recommit to doing everything possible to create a safe and peaceful future without the threat of nuclear weapons.”
The commemoration will be followed by a Walk for Peaceful Prioritiies through downtown Bangor. For information, call 942-9343.
Flag Football Camp
BANGOR — Boys and girls entering first through eighth grade are invited to Glad Tidings Church Flag Football Camp 5-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 3-6, at the church. Coaches will lead participants in warm-ups, drills and games. A half-time huddle will include motivational speeches and at the closing huddle children will be encouraged with a short Bible devotional.

Homebuyer ed classes
BANGOR — MaineStream Finance will hold homebuyer education classes 5:30-8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 17-20, at Penquis CAP. The class discusses topics related to purchasing a home, including mortgages, shopping for a home and maintenance of the home once it is purchased. It also teaches students about budgeting and financially preparing for homeownership.
The cost of the class is $30 per person. Participants will receive a completion certificate that may be used in the home buying process and is valid for two years after completing the class.

Cooking Matters
BUCKSPORT — Healthy Acadia is offering a free educational Cooking Matters shopping event 2:30-5 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Bucksport Hannaford.
Event participants will visit educational stations throughout the store to gain a variety of practical shopping skills, enjoy taste tests and learn about new recipes.
Shopping skill topics include buying fruits and vegetables on a budget, comparing unit prices to find bargains, reading and comparing food labels, identifying whole grains, and much more.
After completing a tour of all the stations in the store, participants will receive a free $10 gift card to the grocery store to purchase ingredients for a healthy meal, a free reusable grocery bag and a free workbook full of tasty recipes and simple tips on buying healthy, low-cost foods. These items will be available while supplies last.

Sculpture celebration
CASTINE — In 2014, Castine was one of seven sites chosen to receive a sculpture from the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium. The sculpture, titled “Home and Away,” was created by artist Robert Leverich and is now displayed on the Wilson Museum grounds. On July 31 at 6 p.m., the Museum will host a dedication ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, July 31, to celebrate the addition of the sculpture to the campus and Castine.
The event will include a performance by the Town Band, a variety of speakers and a display of sculptures made by local students. The band will be perform a song inspired by the sculpture and composed by Eddie Madden.
The Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium was started by Jesse Salisbury, a sculptor from Steuben. Since 2007, SISS has brought artists to Maine from all over the world to create sculptures with stone from local granite quarries. The works of art are on display in towns throughout Downeast Maine providing the public with opportunities to interact with these massive works of art both during their creation and after they are displayed in their permanent locations.

Guest speaker
OLD TOWN — Dr. Harold Borns will be the guest speaker at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at the Old Town Museum, 353 Main St. His topic will be “Glaciation vs the Bibical Deluge: An Unpublished Manuscript from the 19th Century.” Admission is free. Stereo views talk
SEARSPORT — Stereoviews took the world by storm and were the most popular form of photography from the 1860s through the 1920s. In his talk, “Stereo Views of New England,” Maine State Museum Director Bernard Fishman will provide 3-D glasses and project historic 3-D stereoview images of Maine and New England. The audience will experiences the images as they originally were meant to be seen.
“It will bring you to closer to history than you’ve ever been before,” said Fishman. People, landscapes, work at home and in industry, entertainments, communities, maritime, and agricultural scenes will be among those featured, in this first such public show ever given in Maine.
Stereo Views of New England will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, in Penobscot Marine Museum’s Douglas and Margaret Carver Memorial Art Gallery, 11 Church St. Tickets are $8, $5 museum members. Clowns in church
VEAZIE — Veazie Congregational Church will host Clowns Come to Church at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at the church, 14014 State St. Several local clowns will attend the morning service. After the service, an ice cream social will be held in the dining hall.
