BRADLEY — These events have be scheduled at the Maine Forest and Logging Museum:
- 1-4 p.m. Friday, July 31, Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28: Docent tours. Take a trip through history to see 1900s-era machinery and the Lombard log hauler, and back to the days of the water-powered sawmill, the blacksmith shop, smoke houses and fish ladder, log cabins and a covered bridge. Tours also available by arrangement. $5.
- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1: Heavy metal machines of all sizes, including the 16-ton steam-powered Lombard log hauler driving. Also, belt-driven machining equipment in the Grady shop and the shingle mill. Blacksmiths — lots of forges for demonstrations and a chance to try your hand with the hammer. Bring tools to sell. Bean-hole beans and biscuits.
- 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 8 p.m. Oct. 9 and 7 p.m. Dec 4: Seasonal stargazing with Sheila Bennett. Watch stars and get help identifying constellations. Bring a telescope or binoculars if you have them. Bring a flashlight. $3. Gift shop open.
- 10 a.m.-1 pm. Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sept. 5: Barn loom weaving with Janet Alexander in the sawyer’s house. Session on setting up the small loom and operating the large one. Volunteers are needed to use the 200-year-old loom and help with demonstrations. Class limit is six. Register in advance by calling 974-6278 or go to maineforestandloggingmuseumm.org. $20.
- 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 8: Tool sharpening workshop. Bring a dull blade and Charlie Green will guide you to a better, sharper edge. - 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8: Blacksmith workshop with Byron Aubrey. Gather in the blacksmith shop for a talk on the details of getting set up to forge — finding equipment, tools and resources. The forges will be set up outside for hands-on experience working with hot metal. Bring a lunch and work gloves. Wear cotton clothing and work boots. - 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16: Family Naturalist Program with Chris Packard, naturalist, botanist, and science teacher. Program helps families enjoy the outdoors and better understand plants, animals and ecosystems. Children must be accompanied by parents. $5, $3 children over 5.
- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 12-13: Life during the American Revolution. Join re-enactors to learn more about the kind of men who helped found the the United States of America. Ask questions about equipment, clothes, battles.
- Saturday, Sept. 19, time to be announced: Change in the Forest, a partnered project with the USDA and the Penobscot Experimental Forest. Grace Bartlett, sculptor and naturalist will lead the installation of an art project with a focus on pine cones.
- 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19: Wildlife photography with Michele Barker. Advance registration required by calling 974-6278 or at maineforestandloggingmuseumm.org. $30.
- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3 and 4, Living History Days. Largest event of the year at the museum, includes 1790s demonstrations and encampment, sawmills operating, 20th Maine Civil War encampment, wagon rides, Lombard log hauler running on steam, bean hole beans and more.
