WATERVILLE, Maine — Eight intoxicated people wound up under arrest early Sunday morning after a fight spilled out into the street in front of the Temple Street Tavern, according to police.
The series of events started after drinking hours ended at 1 a.m. when Sgt. Brian Gardiner saw Henry Haylett, 32, of Waterville and two other men fighting in the street, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.
Haylett refused to stop fighting, although the other two men complied with the sergeant’s orders. Gardiner had to subdue Haylett with a Taser and was able to get him into handcuffs despite what Rumsey called a large, unruly crowd of intoxicated individuals screaming at the sergeant.
Gardiner quickly radioed for backup. Despite the fact that 10 officers from Waterville, Oakland and Clinton were on scene, the crowd continued to be out of control and did not follow orders to disperse. Rumsey said additional altercations broke out and three people were subdued with pepper spray.
Rumsey said the following people were arrested and charged with failure to disperse: Nicholas Boulette, 36, of Rome; Kacee Standering, 28, Crystal Diaz, 29, Jammie O’Clair, 39, Tracey Bragdon, 48, Thomas Schanz, 37 and Luis Rodriguez, 40, all of Waterville. Haylett was charged with disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest.
Rumsey praised the actions of officers for getting the crowd under control and ultimately getting them to disperse. No injuries were reported.
