WINDSOR, Maine — A Waldoboro woman was flown to a Lewiston hospital for treatment of serious injuries she suffered Tuesday morning in a four-vehicle crash on Route 17, Kennebec County’s interim sheriff said in a news release.
Ryan Reardon said the crash happened just west of Route 32 shortly after 6:30 a.m. when a 1998 GMC pickup driven by Alexander Achorn, 18, of Nobleboro drifted into the westbound lane of travel, striking a 2008 Hyundai driven by 25-year-old Justin Stewart of Appleton.
After the initial collision, the pickup then struck two additional vehicles — a 2012 Toyota Corolla driven by Andrea Severson, 49, of Waldoboro and a 2012 Honda Ridgeline operated by Joel Perry, 36, of Warren.
Severson, who suffered severe injuries in the crash, was flown to Central Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight. The other motorists involved in the pileup were treated for minor injuries at the scene. None of the vehicles contained any passengers.
Because of the crash, Route 17 in Windsor was closed to traffic for about 45 minutes.
The accident remains under investigation, Reardon said. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office at 623-3614.
Deputies with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by Maine State Police at the crash scene.
