ROCKLAND, Maine — The final public hearing and votes are scheduled for Thursday on a proposed 2016 Knox County budget that will have local municipalities pay about 4 percent more in taxes.

Expenses in the proposed budget total slightly less than $10.2 million. Both the budget committee and county commissioners will vote on the package at 6 p.m. at the Knox County Courthouse.

The recommended budget is nearly the same as had been submitted by County Administrator Andrew Hart in October.

Camden, with the largest property assessment in Knox County, would see the biggest increase in payments to the county. The community would pay $1,326,000 in 2016 for taxes and communication fees to Knox County — $76,000 more than in 2015 — under the proposed budget.

Rockport and Rockland pay the next largest share of the county budget. Rockport would see its payments increase $59,000 to slightly less than $1.1 million, while Rockland would pay an additional $37,000, reaching $957,000.

The jail account and spending for maintenance of the courthouse represent the two largest increases in the proposed budget.
