WATERVILLE, Maine — A woman critically injured in an accident involving a vehicle and a horse-drawn carriage has died of her injuries, according to Waterville police.

Kathy Marciarille, 56, of Rome died Sunday evening, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey reported Monday.

Marciarille had been treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Rumsey said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the carriage, Richard Libby, 68, of Clinton, was not injured in the crash on Industrial Road and police believe his vision may have been obstructed by the sun. Libby was alone in the vehicle.

The wagon, owned by S&S Carriage Rides of Sidney, was operated by Cathleen Simmons, 42, of Sidney.

Maria Hyatt, 55, of Arundel; Joseph Hyatt, 59, of Arundel; Kimberly Knox Lawrence, 53, of Albion; Stacey Hachey, 53, of Winslow; Andrew Giroux, 41, of Winslow; and Marty Baird, 46, of Massachusetts all were passengers on the wagon and suffered minor injuries.

Simmons and wagon passengers Brenda Blair, 59, of Clinton; Norman Lawrence, 64, of Albion; Krislyn Hyatt, 26, of Arundel; Tammy Giroux, 44, of Oakland; Sophia Giroux, 4, of Oakland; Andrew Giroux, 2, of Oakland; and Jeanette Deluca, 85, of Commack, New York, were not injured.

The horses pulling the wagon were not injured in the crash.

No other new information was available Monday, Rumsey said. The case remains under investigation.
