DEER ISLE, Maine — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency seized 150 grams of crack cocaine, $9,000 cash and arrested two locals and one New York man on Monday in connection with a trafficking investigation.
Barry Glover, 19, of Bronx, New York, faces a Class A aggravated trafficking charge. Shannon Gray, 32, and Michael Brown, 39, both of Deer Isle, also face counts of aggravated trafficking. The “aggravating” factor was because of the amount of drugs involved, according to Cmdr. Peter Arno of the MDEA.
The cocaine has an estimated street value of $25,000, Arno said..
All three are being held at Hancock County Jail and are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Ellsworth Unified Court. Glover’s bail is set at $200,000 cash, and Gray and Brown are being held on $5,000 bond.
Arno said MDEA and Hancock County deputies have been working closely for months to identify the distribution ring responsible for spreading crack and other drugs in the Stonington-Deer Isle area.
During the investigation, an undercover investigator purchased crack cocaine from “the group responsible,” Arno said. That led to police executing a search warrant at Brown and Gray’s residence on Horseshoe Lane in Deer Isle. Glover was allegedly there when police arrived.
“MDEA will continue to work closely with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office on this investigation,” Arno said. “More arrests are possible.”
This was the second time in a week that police have disrupted a major source of drug distribution in Hancock County.
Last week, police seized nearly a pound of heroin and 22 pounds of marijuana during a bust in Orland.
