BANGOR, Maine — Get ready for more winter weather.
A low pressure system moving up the East Coast is expected to bring mixed precipitation followed by up to 6 inches of snowfall to parts of the state on Saturday into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Warmer air aloft will allow for a mix of freezing rain possibly followed by a period of rain, primarily along the coast early in the day Saturday. Any ice accumulation would be less than a tenth of an inch. As the low intensifies offshore, cooling will take place, leading to a change to moderate to heavy snowfall in Down East and eastern Maine, according to the NWS.
Northern Maine is expected to see up to 4 inches of snow with lesser amounts in the southern part of the state. The storm is expected to continue overnight in Aroostook County and wind down on Sunday.
The storm comes at the end of a week that began with a significant wind and rain storm that knocked out power to tens of thousands of utility customers around the state.
Electrical service has been restored for Emera Maine customers, the company announced Thursday. According to the statement, Emera Maine will monitor the forecast and make staffing plans as required.
It took crews approximately 48 hours to restore service to the 30,000 customers who lost power, while final cleanup from Sunday’s windstorm continued throughout Wednesday.
Line workers from across New England and Atlantic Canada bolstered Emera’s efforts.
Central Maine Power Co. customers were less affected, but several thousand lost power for a time.
