CARIBOU, Maine — Flooding from an ice jam is receding along the Aroostook River, according to the National Weather Service.
The flooding of low-lying roads along the river is not out of the ordinary, meteorologist Victor Nouhan said Saturday morning from the National Weather Service office in Caribou.
The weather service reported that the jam that closed Grimes Road in Caribou had departed and the road was open again.
The ice has largely flushed out of the river, Nouhan said.
He said the amount of flooding this week not unusual and has been along roads that are in floodplains.
Dropping temperatures should reduce ice melt, he said. The forecast for the Caribou area is for temperature to drop below freezing tonight and remain that way until Wednesday with only Saturday afternoon showers during that period.
