CORNISH, Maine — If you’ve ever dreamed of owning your own tank, you’re in luck.

Bob Solomon is selling his Vietnam-era M114 armored fighting vehicle. It’s demilitarized, meaning there are no guns, and it runs great, he says.

Solomon listed the tank for sale on Craigslist last week. He said Tuesday that he got it a year ago in a trade, in hopes of fixing it to look like a classic tank and driving his kids around in it. The tank is missing armored plates. “Me and my boys were going to put it back together.”

Since then, he’s fallen on hard times due to a back injury and needs money. He’s asking $10,000 for the tank. He said he’s seen the same model sell on eBay for $25,000.

The M114 was built as a light, fast reconnaissance tank that could be parachuted into action. It was designed in Vietnam but due to difficulty traversing through the jungle and vulnerability to land mines, it was pulled from Vietnam after just a few years.

Due to the vehicle’s Chevy 283 small block engine, hotrod.com called it “The Camaro of tanks.”

In the ad, Solomon said the all-aluminum tank weighs 7,000 pounds but can carry a 10,000 pound payload.
