SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A drug rip-off at a Maine Mall Road hotel Tuesday night led to two men and a woman going to jail on various charges, according to police.
The series of events started shortly before 11 p.m., when police learned Abdallah Dud, 29, of Saco reported he had been assaulted by two men in his room at the Days Inn, according to South Portland police Sgt. Steven Webster.
Dud was treated at a local hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Shortly before midnight, an officer conducted a traffic stop on an Interstate 295 on-ramp near outer Broadway, and the vehicle contained a man and a woman believed to be suspects in the case, Webster said.
Evidence found during the stop, including a large amount of cash, led to the arrests of Kokou Noulilo, 24, and Breanna Lee, 25, both of Lewiston, Webster said.
Police later obtained a search warrant for Dud’s room, and 8 grams of suspected crack cocaine was found under a bed, Webster said. Officers also determined the money found in Noulilo and Lee’s vehicle had been taken from the room during the assault.
“This was essentially a drug rip-off, and thankfully no innocent guests were harmed,” Webster said.
Noulilo and Lee face robbery and aggravated assault charges, while Dud was arrested upon being discharged from the hospital and charged with trafficking in schedule W drugs, Webster said.
All three are being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail. Webster said more arrests are anticipated.
