Three Mainers are among the eight finalists for the North Atlantic Conference’s Woman of the Year.

Husson University of Bangor women’s basketball player Victoria McIntyre of Mars Hill, Thomas College of Waterville field hockey player Brooklyn Curry of Belmont, and Belfast High School and University of Maine at Farmington basketball player Elizabeth Ferry from Winslow are on the list.

The others are Maine Maritime Academy of Castine volleyball player Jessica Menges; Lyndon State volleyball player Laura Drake; New England College soccer, basketball and lacrosse player Caroline Mols; Castleton State ice hockey and lacrosse player Rachel Bombardier; and Colby-Sawyer field hockey, and track and field performer Rebecca Hashem.

The award honors graduating student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

McIntyre, a former standout at Central Aroostook High School, was named last winter’s North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year. She finished second in the conference in 3-pointers (37), fourth in points per game (13.7) and sixth in rebounds per game (7.8).

She led the Eagles to a 21-7 record, a North Atlantic Conference tournament championship and an NCAA Division III tournament appearance. She was chosen to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III All-Northeast District Team, to the All-NAC first team and to the NAC All-Tournament team. She has earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology and is pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy.

Curry was a NAC first-teamer in field hockey and earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region second-team honors. She played in 66 career games with four goals and nine assists and was the team captain last fall.

Curry was on the President’s List for all eight semesters and won the NFHCA’s Scholar of Distinction twice. She won the Thomas College Crest in 2015 and the Thomas Award in 2016 and volunteered in second and fourth grade classes throughout her career while also coaching.

Ferry was second in the NAC in blocked shots (1.8 per game) and averaged 6.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She was named the UMF Scholar Athlete for 2016, and the secondary education major was awarded the Jill Schwab Award for leadership and community involvement.

Ferry volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life and with the UMF Special Olympics. She was the UMF and NAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President for two years. She will serve in the Peace Corps in Tanzania, Africa, for two years beginning in July.

Maine Maritime Academy’s Menges was chosen the NAC’s first volleyball Senior Scholar Athlete and the school’s Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was named to the Dean’s List and as a Presidential and Distinguished Scholar while having a dual major of marine biology and small vessel operations.

She was considered among the MMA Elite 8 (highest GPA in class) and was instrumental in organizing VolleyKids, a program run by the MMA volleyball team for local youth in grades K-5. She tallied 213 digs, 102 kills, 38 aces and nine blocks last season.
