BANGOR, Maine — A Hermon man pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court to one count of failing to register as a sex offender, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Charles Roberson, 44, formerly of St. Paul, Minnesota, was arrested in February.
He remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail with conditions that include home confinement, electronic monitoring and registering in Maine as a sex offender.
A sentencing date has not been set.
Roberson is required to register for life because of a 2004 conviction in Minnesota in connection with a sexual assault on a 6-year-old boy, according to court documents.
Roberson was required to update his registration in Minnesota on July 1, 2015, and failed to do so. He last registered in that state on July 1, 2014, according to court documents.
He was located in Maine through his Facebook account, according to a previously published report. Roberson posted that he began working last November at Dysart’s Truck Stop as a line cook but denied being convicted of a crime on his application, the complaint said.
He now works at another restaurant in Bangor, according to information posted on the Maine Sex Offender Registry.
Roberson faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
