ROCKLAND, Maine — A 42-year-old man tackled by a neighbor after he allegedly set fire Tuesday morning to a mobile home off Park Street is facing charges of aggravated attempted murder and arson, according to police.
Timothy Barbeau of Rockland was restrained at the fire scene by a neighbor until Rockland police arrived to arrest him, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.
Three people who were asleep inside mobile home when the fire broke out about 7 a.m. were not injured, he said.
Barbeau is being held at Knox County Correctional Facility in Rockland. His bail was set at $150,000 cash, a jail official said Tuesday afternoon.
McCausland said that the fire occurred in the Sunset Terrace mobile home park off Park Street. The fire occurred at 23 Third Street and Barbeau lives at 2 Second Street, he said.
Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, who were assisted by Rockland police, said gasoline was used to start the fire, which caused minor damage to the mobile home.
