A Waterville man accused of stabbing his co-worker to death in central Maine has pleaded not guilty.
Spridal Hubiak is charged with murder for the death of 52-year-old Angela Bragg of Waterville.
He appeared in court Wednesday afternoon on that charge.
Hubiak and Bragg worked together at Damon’s Beverage in Waterville.
On the night of the murder, Hubiak locked the doors about 45 minutes before closing, according to court documents.
Surveillance video showed Hubiak pacing behind Bragg with a knife while she was at the cash register, according to court documents.
He then said, “I’m sorry,” and began to stab Bragg.
Bragg screamed and pleaded with Hubiak to stop, saying, “We can fix this,” according to court documents.
The affidavit said that Bragg appeared to pass out but could still be heard breathing in the video and that Hubiak then brought her to the tasting room.
A third co-worker found Bragg’s body inside around 4:30 a.m. the next day.
Bragg’s daughters described the relationship between Bragg and Hubiak as “motherly,” and said that Hubiak often gave Bragg gifts.
Police in Arkansas found Hubiak sleeping in his car, and that he led them on a chase, crashed, then got out holding an AR-style weapon.
A deputy shot him multiple times.
Hubiak is held without bail, and his next court hearing is scheduled for June 11.
