The Stacyville fire station was seriously damaged Tuesday night after charging lithium-ion batteries caught fire.
The blaze at the building, located at 370 Station Road, happened shortly before 9 p.m., Assistant Fire Chief John Cummings said.
The fire also damaged all three fire engines and trucks, he said.
Firefighters were not in the building when the fire started, but they did go inside to try to save the equipment, Cummings said. One firefighter was transported to the hospital because of a leg injury unrelated to the fire.
The fire started along a wall where multiple lithium-ion batteries were charging, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety said. It was an accidental fire.
All five mutual aid fire departments and other departments responded to the fire, Cummings said.
Surrounding fire departments will cover Stacyville calls while the department recovers.
