Maine GOP gubernatorial candidates may skip the party’s unity breakfast if Bobby Charles wins. It’s the latest signal that Republican candidates may not be in lockstep as Republican President Donald Trump’s approval ratings continue to lag. 

A Maine House candidate could win his primary despite dropping out of the race. Not long after launching a bid for the Legislature, teacher and football coach Lawrence “Skip” Bessey decided to end his campaign for the District 58 seat.

Roadside mourners on Monday honored Searsmont’s assistant fire chief who was fatally injured by a lumber mill silo explosion. Wayne Woodbury was among a dozen firefighters and Robbins Lumber workers who were in harm’s way on May 15 when a silo at the mill exploded.
