The Midcoast has returned to severe drought conditions, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The dry weather has turned lawns brown.

But thus far, the region’s main water utility reports no problem with its supply.

“We are in good shape at Mirror Lake/Grassy Pond and no need for water use restrictions based on current levels, but we will continue to monitor,” Maine Water Director of Corporate Communications Dan Meaney said Friday.

Mirror Lake in West Rockport is the primary water supply for the Camden-Rockland area, with nearby Grassy Pond as the backup supply.

Rainfall has been scarce this summer. In July, 0.16 inches of rainfall was recorded at Mirror Lake, according to Maine Water. This was the fourth least rainfall for any month since the company began keeping records in 1913.

In October 1924, no rainfall was recorded. In December 2022, 0.05 inches was recorded. And in October 1947, 0.14 inches was recorded.
