SEARSMONT – Ben L. Hemenway, 93, of Searsmont, passed away at his home Oct. 2, 2004. Born Aug. 20, 1911, in Union, he was the son of Leroy and Edna Wadsworth Hemenway. Ben married the late Lida Pert on March 17, 1937. He worked at Robin Lumber for many years and at a creamery in Union in his younger years. He liked all animals, especially horses and loved to watch deer in his yard. He enjoyed fishing, farming, going to fairs and working in his garden. Every year he would raise pumpkins for all his grandchildren. He always looked forward to taking rides with his family to get his coffee and donuts. He and his son-in-law, Clyde, would take trips to Greenville together. Ben considered him a very special friend. Ben was predeceased by his wife, Lida, June 27, 2000; a sister; Gladys Hemenway; and his son-in-law, Clyde Hanscom, who died Oct. 1, 1999. He is survived by four sons, Edgar and his wife, Paulette, Benny, Steven and his wife, Catherine, all of Searsmont and Andrew Hemenway of Arizona; one daughter, Marion Hanscom of Steep Falls; one sister, Meyrtie Hemenway of Union; many grandchildren, great-grandchild-ren, nieces, nephews and a very special granddaughter, Marguerite Seekins. Memorial services will be held at a later time.
