PORTSMOUTH, N.H., and MACHIAS – Christina Clark, 97, wife of the late John W. Clark, died Dec. 7, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, in Portsmouth, N.H. She was born Nov. 29, 1910, in Edmunds, the daughter of Nathaniel and Isabella (Chisholm) Smith Jr. She graduated from Dennysville High School in 1928. Christina received her teaching degree from Machias Normal School in 1930 and a bachelors degree from Washington State Teachers College in 1958. She taught school for many years in schools in Washington County and retired in 1973 from her last teaching position in Mexico, Maine. She resided in Machias for more than 50 years. After retiring, she spent her winters in Gulfport, Fla., returned to New Hampshire, in 2000, and resided with her daughter, Teddy, in New Castle, N.H. Christina was a communicant of Holy Name Church and active in many church activities, she was also active in the Joyce Kilmer Club, Red Cross Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Retired Teachers Association, and a Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed gardening and swimming, and was able to snorkel in the Gulf of Mexico on her 80th birthday. In addition to her husband, John W. Clark, who predeceas-ed her in 1961, she was predeceased by seven siblings. Chris-tina is survived by two daughters, Joan Dickey and husband, Joe, of Swanville and Teddy Golter of New Castle, N.H.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, many nieces and nephews. A spring graveside and memorial service will be held in Maine at a later date. A service of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
