FORT KENT – Clara E. Picard died March 11, 2005, at Northern Maine Medical Center after a recurring battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 11, 1929, in St. Francis, the daughter of Jerry and Odile (Morin) Ouellette. Clara attended the Madawaska Training School in Fort Kent. She was a Charter member of the Columbiettes, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies of St. Anne and the Hospital Guild. She was a Eucharistic Minister, and a Hospice volunteer. She initiated the weekly recitation of the Holy Rosary which began 25 years ago at St. Louis Church. She visited shut-ins and was a dedicated volunteer for her church community at the St. Louis Parish, organizing the giving tree each year, which collected hundreds of toys for area needy children. She was a dedicated volunteer at the harvest supper each fall and NMMC taking elderly patients to their appointments. Clara loved her roses. She loved growing them, receiving them and giving her prized ones to her cherished friends. Clara was a kind friend with a beautiful smile that would light up any room. She was quick with a compliment and appreciated all the little things. She had more energy than anyone and was happiest when he was helping others. Clara also did her share of cooking and baking for her family and friends. Her specialties were chicken dinners, raspberry pies, peanut butter fudge and whoopie pies. She was an avid and competitive dice player, who loved to play the game with her grandsons. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband, George; son, Scott, of Fort Kent; two daughters, Anne Picard of York, Lynne Schoonard and her husband, William Yates; three grandsons, Jared Schoonard, and Evan and Colin Yates, all of Kennebunk; four sisters, Bertile Walker of Plymouth, Conn., Dorilla and her husband, Lincoln Ouellette of St. Francis, Monica Jandreau of St. Francis and Joan Keaton of Caribou; one brother, Ervin and his wife, Joyce Ouellette of St. Francis; many nieces and nephews and many, many faithful friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one son, Paul; and three brothers, Camille, Norman and Rudolph Ouellette. Friends may call at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, in Fort Kent 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until time of service Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Louis Catholic Church, with the Rev. Claude Gendreau officiating. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery, May 18, 2005.
