CUTLER – Dora (Beam) Maker joined her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her loving husband of 63 years Durward (Pudge) Maker on Oct. 21, 2004. Dora was born in Cutler on Dec. 31, 1916, to Will and Della (Young) Beam. She lived with her brother Ernest during her high school years and graduated from Stockton Springs High School before returning to Cutler to marry her sweetheart, Pudge, on July 4, 1937. While raising three sons, she worked for a number of years as town clerk, tax collector, and school board member for the Town of Cutler, and for many years she and Pudge owned and operated the Harbor View Restaurant in Cutler during the summer and worked in Florida in the winter. She was a longtime baker at MacKenzies Market in Machias and was known throughout the area for her delicious pies, bread and doughnuts. She was a lifetime member of the Cutler United Methodist Church, Past Master of Natural Bridge Grange and Past Matron of Sebosis Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Dora always graciously spoke her mind, never mincing words, because she cared about what was right for her and her family. Right to the end, she made it clear that she was still in charge. She enjoyed camping trips at Moosehead with Buddy and Wilbur, berry picking, cooking, and family gatherings but mostly “Nannie” enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren. For the past four years, Dora was at home at Marshall’s Healthcare Facility in Machias. She made many friends there and was thankful for the loving care that she received. She particularly enjoyed her Monday morning Bible studies that she led. She was happiest when she was doing God’s work. She will be remembered and missed by her three sons and their wives, Burton and Kathy of Cutler, Dave and Patti of East Machias, and Rickford and Valeria of Cutler; 10 grandchildren, Teresa, Melanie, Greg, Tony, Keith, Julie, Timmy, Toby, Lisa, and Tracy; 27 great-grandchildren, Derek, Patrick, Meagan, Nathaniel, Michael, Miranda, Seth, Jacob, Rachel, Hannah, Sarah, Hillary, Benjamin, Brandon, Lindsey, Jared, Ashley, Joseph, Ryan, Derek, Caitlin, Matthew, Jessica, Caleb, McKenna, Coty and Charity; six great- great-grandchildren Gage, Kade, Kashman, Keenan, Peyton and baby Fergerson. Many nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Crystal, Joelle and Marjorie; a special roommate, Georgia Carlow; Pudge’s brothers and sisters, and her extended family at Marshall Healthcare, will also miss her. She was predeceased by her grandson, Ricky; daughter-in-law, Joyce; brothers, Newell, Ernest, Ira, Lloyd, Aubrey, Wyman, Wilbur and Ralph; and sisters, Helen and Hannah. At Dora’s request, there will be no visiting hours. There will be a graveside celebration service of her life at 1 p.m. Sunday Oct. 31 at the New Cutler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cutler United Methodist Church, care of Maxine Porter, treasurer. Arrangements by McClure Family Funeral Services.
