MARS HILL – Robert J. McCrea, passed away Friday Oct. 22, 2004, a Bangor hospital. He was born at Robinson on Oct. 8, 1924, and had just celebrated his 80th birthday with his family and friends. He served with U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed in Tinian. Robert retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service. He worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years, and helped with the Winterfest in Mars Hill every year. Robert was an active member of the American Legion Post 118. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, cross country and downhill skiing, and snowmobiling. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Townsend McCrea of Mars Hill; children and their spouses, Peggy and Dean Larrabee of Hermon, Judy and Blair Bubar of Blaine, Tom and Carlene McCrea of Whitefish, Mont., Rob and Donna McCrea of Missoula, Mont.; grandchildren, Russann and David Oviatt of Twin Falls, Idaho, Darci Bubar Miller of Bangor, Matthew Bubar of Whitefish, Mont., and Deedra and Garth Cronkite of Windsor, Conn.; four beautiful great- grandchildren, Heather Oviatt, Hannah Miller, Gavin and Grady Cronkite. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at the Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main Street, Mars Hill, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating.
