EAST MILLINOCKET – Nellie Frances Purcell, 92, passed away Oct. 24, 2004, at a local healthcare facility, surrounded by her loving family. Nellie led a courageous battle against cancer before her passing. Nellie was born Aug. 21, 1912, in East Millinocket, the daughter of John and Mary (Sullivan) MacDonald Nellie was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and a charter member of the St. Anne Circle of the Daughter’s of Isabella. She enjoyed shopping, walking outdoors, but most of all she loved being with her family. She was predeceased by her husband, James Purcell in 1976. Nellie was also predeceased by her two sisters, Marie Lyons and Lucille St. Peter and her five brothers, John, Ronald, Everett, Llewellyn, and Leonard. She is survived by her two sons, James Michael and his wife, Charlotte, and Ronald Francis and his wife, Meredith both of East Millinocket. She was also much loved by her five grandchildren, Wendy (Purcell) and her husband, Aaron Boynton, of West Newfield, Denise Purcell of East Millinocket, Scott Purcell and his wife, Jill, of Waterboro, Michelle and Kathyrn Purcell of East Millinocket. She adored her four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Katie, Gillian, and Sydney. She is also survived by her two sisters whom she loved dearly, Maude Gallant and Kathleen Crawford, both whom lived near her in East Millinocket. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 17 Western Avenue, East Millinocket, where the St. Anne Circle Daughters of Isabella will recite the Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in East Millinocket. Burial will be at the East Millinocket Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462 or to the Katahdin Nursing Home, 22 Walnut St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
