TRENTON – Edward P. Gray, 81, passed away peacefully Nov. 13, 2004, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Ed led a very full life. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. as a corporal from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II, and received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. When he left the service, he worked as a carpenter with his son for many years. In his later years he stayed very active. He filled his days with hunting and fishing and enjoying his family. He touched the lives of many people, and made everyone feel special. Ed is survived by his children, Patricia Donnell, Harrison Sawyer and wife, Marsha, Barbara Gray and long time companion, Scott Ashey; a brother, Sam Gray; and a sister, Ethel Leach; grandchildren, Patti Gray and Patrick Elwell, Veronica Abbott and Matt Verburght, Scott Herrick, Wayne Sawyer and Kati Richards, Adam Sawyer, Russell Burnett, Mark Swett, Mark Herrick, and Shiree Herrick. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, Billy, Lindsay, Tim, Andrew, Russell, Hannah, Whitney, Ian, Benjamin, Zachary, Jordan, Alexzandria, Aaron, Carli and Frankie. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Gray; and grandson-in-law, Benjamin Abbot. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday. Interment will be at Goose Cove Cemetery, Trenton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be sent to Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Avenue, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
