HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Ellen W. Gordon, 84, died Nov. 10, 2006, at Hackettstown Community Hospital. Born in Connelsville, Pa., she lived in Madawaska, Levittown, N.Y, Wantaugh, N.Y., and Peter’s Township, Pa., before moving to Mendham, N.J., in 1963. She recently moved to Hackettstown, N.J. She was a 1943 graduate of Seton Hill University, Greensburg, Pa. She was a schoolteacher at Assumption School, Morristown, N.J., for nine years before retiring in 1988. Prior to that she worked at St. Joseph School, Mendham, N.J., for nine years. She also worked as a social worker for Catholic Charities, Pittsburgh and she taught while in Madawaska. Survivors include her husband, Stuart Gordon Sr. of Hackettstown, N.J.; two daughters, Alicia Hahn of Portland, Ore., and Mary Gordon of Mendham, N.J.; two sons, Stuart Gordon Jr. of Sparks, Nev. and John Gordon of Newton, Mass; one sister, Mary McBride of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, N.J. Funeral liturgy will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Mendham, N.J. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society in her memory would be appreciated.
