WHITNEYVILLE – Eva L. Gardner, 89, passed away Feb. 17, 2007, at Sunrise Care Facility, Jonesport, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Whitneyville, the daughter of the late James William and Mina (Pennell) Morrison. She grew up in Whitneyville and graduated from Machias High School in 1935 as valedictorian of her class. She was a graduate of Beal Business College, Bangor. Her employment career included the Department of Human Services, Machias; Lester Crane Mill, Whitneyville and many years with St. Regis Paper Co., both in Whitneyville and Bucksport. She retired from St. Regis Paper Co., in 1980. Eva moved to Bucksport in 1969 and lived there for 34 years, moving back to Whitneyville in December 2003. While in Bucksport, she made many friends with whom she enjoyed playing bridge, trips to Bangor and traveling. Her summers were spent at her cottage on Fulton Lake, Northfield, watching loons, quilting and spending time with family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the Whitneyville Congregational Church and the Machias Chapter No. 83 Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her son, Leslie Gardner and wife, Sonja; grandson, Darren Gardner and friend, Samantha Myrick, of Whitneyville; granddaughter, Katie Gardner of Holden; great-grandson, Riley Robert Gardner of Whitneyville; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Gardner Sr.; a son, Robert Gardner Jr.; her two sisters, Catherine Morrison and Arlene Bridges; and a brother, James Morrison. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Whitneyville Congregational Church officiated by Pastor Betty Duzen. Burial will be at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias.
