ARUNDEL – Everett Beach Thurlow died after a short illness at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born June 28, 1921, in Lee, a son of Rollin H. and Margurite (Beach) Thurlow. He was married to Wilda Whitney Thurlow for 62 years. Beach graduated from Lee Academy, Lee, in 1939. He received a BA from the University of Omaha in 1961, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Maine 1963. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and was a B-24 Squadron Commander in the Pacific Theater 1943-1945. He made a career of the Air Force and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel before his retirement in 1962. After returning to Maine he taught ROTC in Biddeford from 1966-1967, and was a flight instructor at Sanford, Biddeford, and Portland airports from 1968-1990. He was the designated FAA flight examiner for private and commercial pilot licenses. In his retirement, friends and family greatly benefited from Beach’s hobbies in bee keeping, maple syrup, and strawberries. He was a long time member of the Webhannet Golf Club and Small Woodlot Owners Association of ME. He is survived by children, Mary Jean and Derrill Cowing of Monmouth, Rollin and Andrea Thurlow of Atkinson, Whitney and Susie Thurlow-Meyer of Wanaka, New Zealand; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at St. David’s Episcopal Church 138 York St., Route 1 Kennebunk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arundel Fire/Rescue 468 Limerick Road Arundel, ME 04046.
