BANGOR – Francis N. “Pete” Knight, 72, died Dec. 14, 2006, at a Bangor hospital, after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 6, 1934, in Mattawamkeag, the son of Frank and Bessie (Bowley) Knight. Pete was a veteran of the Army and served during the Korean War. He preferred older model vehicles, so that he could do the repair work himself. He liked driving back roads, so he could avoid the interstate whenever possible. He loved to watch NASCAR. He is survived by his companion and friend of many years, Vera Thibeau; Vera’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Pettengill of Mattawamkeag and Mildred Grillo of Nevada; nephews, Roger Pettengill and Marianne of New York and Frank Grillo of Nevada; and many friends and cousins, too numerous to mention, some of whom he had a special name, such as, Gomer, Flossie and Dooryard Ape. He was predeceased by his parents; and by a sister, Shirley. Friends may call from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pete’s close friend, Jerry Hughes officiating. Interment will be at Mattawamkeag Cemetery.
