CORINNA and DEXTER – Frank Benjamin Knowles, 90, was born June 15, 1913, in Corinna, and died May 12, 2004, at Sentry Hill in York. Frank graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, Class of 1933. He worked for Moosehead Woolen Mill, tested milk for farmers throughout Central Maine, and retired from Fay-Scott Machine Shop in Dexter after 25 years. He was a member of the Pleasant Street Christian Church, serving as treasurer for 35 years. Throughout his life he enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, mini-golf, and had a great love for horses. He was predeceased by his beloved wives, Eva (Dearborn) Knowles in 1988 and Thelma (James) Knowles in 1990. In addition to his wife, Ruth of Dexter, he is survived by two sons, Benjamin of Hoodsport, Wash., and Raymond of Gahanna, Ohio; two daughters, Glenice Godinho of York, Amber Cherniske of Dexter; three stepsons, Kevin James of Bar Harbor, Jessie Pingree of Ripley, and Keith Pingree of Garland; three stepdaughters Adrienne Strout of Dexter, Brenda Hogate of Cornville, and Wendy Luce of East Holden; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Pleasant Street Christian Church in Corinna, with the Rev. Paul Heath of Vassalboro, officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Corinna Village Cemetery, Rt. 222, in Corinna.
