NASHUA, N.H. – Freda E. (Cotton) Roderick, 72, died June 24, 2006, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, Mass., after a brief illness. Mrs. Roderick was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Millinocket, daughter of Phillip C. and Louise (Hanson) Cotton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Millinocket and was a graduate of Stearns High School. She lived in Millinocket until 1968, and was a resident of Milford, N.H. from 1970 to 2004. She was the wife of the late Charles Roderick, to whom she was married for 27 years. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and recently became a great-grandmother. She enjoyed baking, knitting and crocheting, shopping on the home shopping channels and visits from her family. Mrs. Roderick worked for several years at EPVA in Wilton, N.H. In 1977, she completed cosmetology training and began working in salons at Almy’s and later at Montgomery Ward, before purchasing her own salon in the Nashua Mall Annex. She owned Shear Image Beauty Salon. She retired in 1989, due to health concerns. She was predeceased by her son, Bryant Carter, who died in 1994; three brothers, Roland, Harley and Lloyd Cotton; three sisters, Olive McCollum, Ruth Ferreira and June Hancock. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Dudley and Kathleen Carter of Nashua, N.H., Roland and Linda Carter of Merrimack, N.H., Mark Carter and Tracey Carter, both of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Inez Bowles of Hendersonville, N.C. and Arlene Carlstrom of Bangor; a brother, Ronald Cotton of Medway; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins; two close nieces, Dorothy Brown of Lowell, Mass. and Joannie Perry of Ashburnham, Mass.; and close friend, Gail Tucker of Milford. Funeral services were held June 28. Smith & Heald Funeral Home, Milford, N.H. is in charge of arrangements.
